Blu-ray Day
By: Tim Day
After the announcement back in May that Sony had began production of the forthcoming Blu-ray Disc Samsung recently claimed that they will be first in producing the "industry's first Blu-ray disc player".
It is hoped the new player will be available to US consumers on June 25th which will coincide with the first Blu-ray Hollywood movies.
"The emergence of Blu-ray is an enormous boon for HDTV owners, video enthusiasts, and for those who actively seek the best picture and sound possible in their home theater," said Jim Sanduski, Senior Vice President of Marketing for Samsung's Audio and Video Products Group. "Until now, there hasn't been a pre-recorded media solution for consumers to take full advantage of the pristine picture their HDTV's are capable of producing. As the first company to deliver a Blu-ray player in the U.S. market, Samsung has reinforced its commitment to provide our consumers with the most riveting and innovative home theater experience possible."
Apart from playing the next generation optical discs Samsung's new model (the BD-P1000) will play standard DVD's with notably higher quality playback, the player also ha the ability to render 2 mega pixel above photos via the "10-in-2 multi memory card interface" which supports Compact Flash, Secure Digital, XD Picture Card, Memory Stick, and many more.
Could the now humble DVD seem to be following the VHS route? Only time will tell...
